We found this to be an attractive park, good WIFI at our site. Some sites might be a little tight to back in but we had no problems. A lot of work has been done here to improve the appearance and performance of things. The campground personnel were quite friendly and helpful. We would definitely camp here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Never camped there. Had a terrible experience with the park owner about a cancellation refund. Lost $65. We didn't go to their website and the owner didn't tell us about the charge at cancellation time. We found out when we got our credit card statement. Owner was real rude and ignorant. We missed the 30 day refund period by two days. That's our fault, but her attitude was totally unprofessional. We camped here in a Motorhome.
For anyone that may be interested, Balsam Cove Campground has been under new ownership since March of 2007. The new owners have cleaned up the sites, brought in over 50 loads of gravel to fix the roads, added a wooden pirate ship to the play ground and a sand box. New kayaks, new 16' Jon Boats with brand new engines and new boat docks. Gazebo for the waterfront and now have weekly bonfires and some entertainment on Saturday nights (weather permitting). Bathrooms are newly renovated and exceptionally clean. There are new washers and dryers in the laundry room. They are doing a great job and so far the campground has been quite full. They are friendly and very helpful. I think this campground, those once run down by former owners will now be quite successful. I am a seasonal camper at Balsam Cove. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We have a seasonal site at Balsam Cove. The new owners have cleaned the place up with a new pirate ship for the kids, a gazebo on the waterfront, weekly bonfires, and a stocked store for starters. They are now in the process of installing complete hookups in most of the sites, they are improving all of the sites with new gravel, and trimming some of the bushes that need to be trimmed. The bathrooms and showers have all been repainted, and cleaned up, and the hospitality is wonderful. I have never seen a campground pack so full on the weekends. We've made allot of friends there this year, and we're looking forward to next year! I hope the new owners stay for a long time, because we'll be going out there for as long as they own it! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Where to start?? There is no beach; the only "swimming area" is about 20 feet across and it's just a two-foot ledge on the grass that drops down to the water, impossible for little ones to play. The playground area, which looks huge on the "not-to-scale" campground map, is nothing more than a swingset, tiny slide and something to climb on, all crammed into a tiny plot. That said, the place is totally overgrown, run-down and neglected. We had to hunt through the overgrowth for our water hookup; it was on a plank that had fallen to the ground and been lost in the weeds. There wasn't enough water pressure to even flush the toilet in our camper, and taking a shower was out of the question. The shower and toilet facilities were also run-down and dirty. To top it all off, our site was next to three sites full of migrant farm workers who had van seats and beer bottles and all kinds of trash all over their sites, each with several tents under huge blue tarps. I have no problem with people making a living that way, but we've worked hard to buy our camper and were on vacation, and here we're in the middle of this squalor and noise. When I asked about all those men in the office, they said, "Yeah, they come to rake blueberries every year." The interior gravel roads are very narrow and in bad shape, with lots of potholes and ruts. I just was so disappointed with this place, and I guess other people have been, too, because they have a strict "no refunds after check-in" policy, so we were stuck with our unfortunate choice. Don't make the same mistake we did; we saw some nice-looking camps on U.S. 1 in Ellsworth. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
