Tips from campers about Charlottesville, VA
- Rick-Astoria 2773RB We live in the Waco area so we only come here to camp - not for sightseeing. However, Waco is home to Chip and Joanna Gains of Fixer Upper fame, and there are many things in the downtown Waco area associated with their company. There is also a Dr. Pepper museum, and a Texas Rangers museum (the lawmen, not the baseball team). The Brazos River has hiking and biking trails and is near the downtown area also. If you're here in the fall, take in a Baylor Bears football game at the new McLain Stadium. If you like winter camping, check to see if our Baylor Bear NCAA Champion basketball team is playing! Just up the road from this campground you will also find a little store/restaurant called Griffs. Best hamburger I ever ate, and the onion rings were awesome!4 years ago Airport Park
- Teri B MN do not take the route going behind the airport as it is way too curvy. use google maps and follow that route for a much straighter and smoother drive.3 years ago Airport Park
- kott Waco Mammoth National Monument was 15 min away. It is a NPS but the dig site is funded by the City of Waco and partners so the Access pass is not accepted. It was $5/person for us (military and senior) to tour the dig site. The dig was very interesting to see the mammoth, camel, tortoise and other fossils. The paleontologist estimates it will take 75 years to fully uncover and study all the fossils and there are more that are near but not unearthed yet. This is the only nursery herd of Columbian Mammoths found to date in the US. Just 15 minutes from the Waco NPS is the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum which was very interesting. Definitely watch the film about how they were started and the good and the bad of the Texas Rangers, which are a branch of DPS. The museum honors past and present Rangers and has many famous artifacts, including a rifle that was used in the Bonnie and Clyde ambush shootout. The Walmart in Bellmeade is about 15 min away and has everything. We ate at George's not far from the Texas Rangers and highly recommend their chicken fried steak. It has won best steak for 15 years. We did not have time to tour the Dr. Pepper museum.11 months ago Airport Park
